And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight and the heart – about all those [one] will be questioned. (Surah al Isra: 36)
In this ayah, Allah is telling us not to pursue anything without knowledge. So we shouldn’t base our opinions about something or someone purely on suppositions. And why should we not do this? Because on the Day of Judgement we will be asked about our faculties and how we used them. We will be asked about our sight, our hearing and our hearts. Did we use them to earn the Pleasure of Allah? Or did we use them in His disobedience?
If you are unsure about something, learn first. Gather all the information before you formulate an opinion, and be especially careful about spreading things without knowledge.
Qatadah said: “Do not say, `I have seen’, when you did not see anything, or `I have heard’, when you did not hear anything, or `I know’, when you do not know, for Allah will ask you about all of that.”
If we are able to control our tongue, then we can control everything else.
Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri said: “The Prophet (ﷺ) said, ‘When the son of Adam gets up in the morning, all the limbs humble themselves before the tongue and say: `Fear Allah for our sake because we are with you: (i.e., we will be rewarded or punished as a result of what you do) if you are straight, we will be straight; and if you are crooked, we will become crooked.”’ [At-Tirmidhi].
And so we should put an effort to control our tongue and we should make Dua to Allah to allow us benefit from our faculties
O Allah, benefit me in my hearing and my sight, and make it the inheritor from me, and aid me against whoever oppresses me, and take vengeance from him for me. [At-Tirmidhi]
