[Adhere to it], turning in repentance to Him, and fear Him and establish prayer and do not be of those who associate others with Allah (ar-Rum: 31)
Whenever you find yourself making mistakes and going off track, immediately turn back to Allah and start making a lot of Istighfar.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The angel on the left holds his pen from (recording) the sin of a Muslim for six hours. If he regrets and asks Allah for forgiveness, he casts it aside (i.e., he does not record it), otherwise he records it as one sin.” [Mu’jam at-Tabarāni al-Kabīr]
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Allah says, ‘O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you’.” [Sahih Muslim]
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Regret is repentance.” [Al Mustadrak Lil Hākim]
The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “He who likes his Register to please him should make a lot of Istighfar.” [Al Mu’jam Al Awsat Lit-Tabarāni]َُ
The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “Good news for the one who found a lot of Istighfar in his book of deeds.” [Ibn Mājah]
And the result of a sincere repentance, is forgiveness of sins and entry into Paradise.
O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow [on] the Day when Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believed with him. Their light will proceed before them and on their right; they will say, “Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things competent.” (al Tahrim: 8)
And those who accepted their faults and recognized their mistakes and repented from them in this Dunya, then Allah will also save them on the Siraat in the Hereafter by giving them light to cross it safely. Some will have a lot of light, whereas others will have little.
The Prophet ﷺ said, “It is a slippery (bridge) on which there are clamps and (Hooks like) a thorny seed that is wide at one side and narrow at the other and has thorns with bent ends. Such a thorny seed is found in Najd and is called As-Sa’dan. Some of the believers will cross the bridge as quickly as the blink of an eye, some others as quick as lightning, a strong wind, fast horses or she-camels. So some will be safe without any harm; some will be safe after receiving some scratches, and some will fall down into HellFire. The last person will cross by being dragged (over the bridge).” [al-Bukhari]
The Prophet ﷺ said, “I will be the first to cross it. And the invocation of the Messengers on that Day, will be ‘Allahumma Sallim, Sallim (O Allah, save us, save us!)’” [al-Bukhari]
