O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu’ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew. (al-Jumuah:9)
The day of Friday, Yawm al-Jumuah, has many virtues. Among them:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Friday is the best of days. It was on this day that Adam (as) was created, it was on this day that he was granted entry into Paradise, it was on this day that he was removed from Paradise, and the Day of Resurrection will also take place on this day.” [Muslim]
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever does ghusl on Friday and bathes completely, and sets out early, arriving early, and comes close to the Imam and listens and keeps quiet, for every step he takes he will have the reward of fasting and praying qiyaam for one year.” [al-Tirmidhi]
Anas (ra) narrated, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘The days were shown to me, and among them Friday was shown to me. It looked like a white mirror in the middle of which is a black spot. I asked, ‘What is that?’ It was said, ‘The Hour.’’” [Saheeh al-Jaami’]
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “On the Day of Judgment, Allah will bring the days (of the week) in certain forms, and He will bring the day of Friday in a beautifully radiant and shining form. The people of Friday will surround it like a bride (is surrounded when) taken to her groom. It will enlighten (the way) for them so they will walk in its light, their colours like white snow and their fragrance like Musk (as if) they were in mountains of Kaafoor! Men and Jinn will look at them, not turning away out of amazement, until they will enter Jannah. None will mingle with them (i.e., reach their high ranks) except the mu’adhins hopeful of reward.” [al-Silsilah al-Sahihah]
Anas ibn Maalik (ra) said, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Jibril (as) came to me with something like a white mirror in his hand, on which there was a black spot. I said, ‘What is this, O Jibril?’ He said, ‘This is Jumu‘ah (Friday); it is the master of days and we call it Yawm al-Mazeed (the day of more).’ I said, ‘O Jibril, what does “more” mean?’ He said, ‘That is because your Lord has allocated a valley in Paradise that is more fragrant than white musk. When Friday comes, among the days in the Hereafter, the Lord, may He be blessed and exalted, will descend from His Throne (‘Arsh) to His Kursiy, and the Kursiy will be surrounded with seats of light on which the Prophets will sit. These seats will be surrounded with footstools of gold on which the martyrs will sit. The people of the chambers will come down from the chambers and sit on sand hills of musk, and those who sit on the sand hills will not think that those who sit on the footstools and seats are any better off than them. Then the Owner of Majesty and Honour will appear and say, ‘Ask of Me.’ They will say, ‘We ask for Your good pleasure, O Lord.’ He will say, ‘It is because I am pleased with you that you are in My Paradise, and you are honoured.’ Then He will say (again), ‘Ask of Me.’ They will say all together, ‘We ask for Your good pleasure.’ He will ask them to testify that He is pleased with them. Then He will say (once more), ‘Ask of Me,’ and they will ask of Him until each one of them is finished. Then He will grant them that which no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and it has not crossed the mind of any human.’’” [Saheeh al-Targheeb]
Anas ibn Maalik (ra) narrated, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘In Paradise there is a market to which they will come every Friday. Then the north wind will blow and will blow on their faces and garments, and increase them in beauty. Then they will return to their families having increased in beauty and their families will say to them, ‘By Allah, you have increased in beauty,’ and they will say, ‘By Allah, you too have increased in beauty.’’” [Muslim]
